Design Intent

This design assumes a control-plane-led operating model where orchestration ownership is centralised while execution is federated across environments. Governance is enforced through identity-led access and policy control, ensuring consistent oversight across distributed workloads. Consumption follows a placement-driven discipline, where workload execution is dynamically determined based on enterprise constraints. AWS provides the execution anchor, with control grounded through AWS IAM Identity Center and Amazon EventBridge to maintain identity and orchestration continuity.

  • Centralising orchestration ensures all workflow decisions originate from a single control plane, preventing fragmented execution logic and enabling consistent governance across clouds (AWS Step Functions, Amazon EventBridge, AWS IAM Identity Center)
  • Creating a unified data layer ensures data consistency and controlled cross-cloud movement, preventing duplication and divergence of datasets across environments (Amazon S3, AWS Glue, AWS AppFlow)
  • Separating execution across cloud boundaries allows workloads to run where most optimal, preventing vendor lock-in while enabling flexibility for performance or compliance needs (Amazon EKS, Other Clouds)
  • Introducing explicit workload placement logic ensures decisions are policy-driven rather than ad hoc, preventing uncontrolled workload sprawl and enabling cost and latency optimisation (VPN / Interconnects)
  • Embedding governance and observability as a cross-cutting layer ensures full visibility and auditability across environments, preventing blind spots and fragmented monitoring (Amazon CloudWatch, AWS CloudTrail, OpenTelemetry, IAM Policies)
