Design Intent

This design assumes a centrally governed modernisation model where transformation is platform-led, not project-led, with clear separation between assessment, transformation, and runtime accountability. Governance is enforced through identity and policy control to ensure all workloads transition through auditable pathways, with Microsoft Azure acting as the execution environment anchored by Microsoft Entra ID and Azure Policy. Consumption follows a pipeline discipline that prevents unmanaged migrations and enforces consistency across teams. The model prioritises controlled scale over rapid but fragmented modernisation.

  • Separating governance before any transformation ensures every workload is subject to policy and identity validation upfront, preventing uncontrolled migrations and inconsistent configurations (Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Policy, Azure Arc)
  • Establishing a dedicated assessment layer ensures dependency visibility before change begins, reducing rework and preventing failed or partial modernisation attempts (Azure Migrate, Dependency Mapping)
  • Centralising transformation into a factory model enforces repeatable and governed modernisation patterns, preventing fragmented refactoring approaches across teams (Azure OpenAI Service, GitHub Copilot, Azure DevOps, ACR)
  • Converging deployment into a unified runtime layer ensures that modern applications operate under standardised environments, preventing drift between applications and infrastructure (AKS, Azure Functions, App Service, API Management)
  • Integrating monitoring and optimisation as a continuous layer ensures post-migration governance remains intact, preventing operational blind spots and performance degradation over time (Azure Monitor, Microsoft Sentinel, Azure Advisor)
